Marilyn L. Wetter
October 2, 2022

Marilyn (Burke) Wetter passed away peacefully Sunday, October 2nd at Wealshire of Medina. Born in Detroit, Michigan July 11, 1930, Marilyn was the second of five children born to Harry and Ida (Iverson) Burke. The young family had traveled to Detroit to find work during the Great Depression. But with work scarce, the family eventually returned to Minnesota and settled at the family homestead in Clarkfield. The family later moved to south Minneapolis, where Marilyn graduated from Washburn High School in 1948. While filling orders at Sears Roebuck in Minneapolis she made friends with a young co-worker from Delano, Marion Wetter, who introduced Marilyn to her older brother, Gordon. Marilyn and Gordy soon began dating, and in 1950 began a marriage of nearly 65 years. They settled in Delano, where children Lance and Diane were born.

While Gordy was busy starting and operating several businesses and becoming involved in the Delano community, Marilyn assisted and contributed to their joint success. She wore many hats as Gordy’s bookkeeper, secretary, and biggest supporter in all his ventures, all the while running the household as they raised their family. Marilyn was an involved member of the Delano United Methodist women’s group and sang soprano in the church choir for decades. Starting in 1966 Marilyn began work in Delano Public Schools, spending 28 years primarily as secretary in the Superintendent’s office before retiring in 1994.

Over the years Gordy and Marilyn enjoyed traveling in their succession of travel trailers and motorhomes, visiting Canada and all contiguous states plus Alaska, except for a few in New England. Marilyn was known for her baking skills, producing bars, cookies and particularly delicious pies, thoroughly enjoyed by family and anyone lucky enough to get a taste.

A few years after Gordy’s passing in 2015 Marilyn moved to Wealshire of Medina. She lived her last few years comfortably and well-cared for until her health deteriorated after a succession of strokes.

She is survived by son Lance (Nancy) of Watertown, daughter Diane (Bob) Hutter of Delano, grandsons Erik (Robyn) Wetter of Plymouth and Ryan (Molly) Wetter of Delano, granddaughters Elizabeth (Peter) Seebart of Plymouth and Emily (Casey) Hilbelink of Delano, great-grandchildren Jacob and Daniel Wetter, Gordon, Maya and Zoe Wetter, Leone and Caroline Seebart, Ida and Robbie Hilbelink, sister Janet Barsness of Nisswa, MN, sister-in-law Marion Hayes of Delano, brothers-in-law Edward (Linda) Wetter of Hemet, CA and Rich (Connie) Wetter of Faribault, MN. Besides husband Gordy and parents Harry & Ida, Marilyn was preceded in death by her brothers Harry and Bruce and sister Ann.
