Vernon James Diethelm age 79 of Delano passed peacefully away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Vernon was born December 22, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Bernard and Louise (Boll) Diethelm of Victoria, Minnesota. Vern served in the U.S. Army from March 1960 – April 1962, earning the rank of SP4. He was united in marriage on May 3, 1969 to Karole Popp at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice, Minnesota. Vern was a master cabinet maker and finish carpenter. He enjoyed crafting furniture, constructing cabinetry and was a loyal Vikings and Twins fan. He will be remembered for his hard work, generous nature, and the deep love he had for his wife and children, family, and friends. Vern is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fr. Louis Diethelm, OFM; sister, Sr. Rolaine Diethelm, OSB; and wife, Karole. Vern is survived by his children Ann (Brian) Scheinost, Amy (Dennis) Edholm, James Diethelm; grandchildren Jacob and Nathan Edholm, Jackson and Bennett Scheinost; sister, Julene Vogel; brother, Roger Diethelm; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation was Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church with a Rosary Service at 4 p.m. Visitation continued on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Martha’s Hall prior to the Mass. Interment was in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to CentraCare Hospice are preferred by the family.
