Glenn James Pilarski, age 71, of Delano, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska. He had been battling cancer for 1 ½ years. Glenn was born on September 12, 1944 in Silver Lake to Phil and Helen (Jagodzinski) Pilarski. He grew up in Silver Lake, living above the barbershop his father owned. He attended school in Silver Lake. Glenn had many friends in Silver Lake, many of with whom he maintained close relationships. He served in the Army in West Germany in 3rd Armor Division. After his time in the service, he attended St. Cloud State College majoring in Business/Administration & Accounting. In 1970, Glenn received his CPA license. He married his beautiful wife, Jean Vorlicek, on June 20, 1970. In Glenn’s words, they had “three remarkable children”. They moved to Delano after Glenn accepted a position with Rembrandt Enterprises (Delano Granite Works). He started his own public accounting firm in 1975. Glenn and Bonnie Sinkel created the accounting firm Pilarski & Sinkel and Co. in 1984. In 1986, Tom Hankes joined the accounting firm and in 1988 the firm became its current name of Pilarski, Sinkel & Hankes, Ltd. Keith Ledin joined the firm in 1988 and became the final piece of the long lasting and successful business. Glenn semi-retired in 2000 and fully retired in 2014. In 1976, he and Jeanie purchased a cabin on Bass Lake near Annandale. The cabin had to be “no farther than an hour away from Delano”. Many lifelong friendships were made at Bass Lake. Time at the cabin with family and friends was always treasured. Glenn had many valued friends, and outings with them were amongst his favorite activities. These included hunting with the Ditty clan, fishing and gambling with Tom, pheasant hunting with Jon and his boys, elk hunting with Jeff, Clyde, Gary and Kevin. He also enjoyed Wednesday golfing, morning dice at Flippin’ Bills, reading a good book and the daily Star & Tribune and “putzing around” with various projects. Glenn was also part of a long lasting card club that started in 1988. Glenn was a hard working husband and father, always planning and making lists so nothing would be forgotten. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jean; children, Ann (Mike) Alvord, Paul (Jessica), Sara (Cory) Svobodny; grandchildren, Ben, Mitchell and Alex Alvord, Aidan and Kate Pilarski, Anya, Sophie and Raeya Svobodny; siblings, Phil (Marina), Sharon (Dale) Miska and Mary (Neil) Wegner. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Jackie Pilarski. Memorial services took place Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano.
