Irene A. Psyk

Irene Alice Psyk, age 81 of Delano passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, December 23, 2023. She was born March 23, 1942, to Ernest and Martha (Van Lith) Wandersee in Rockford Township, Minnesota.
Irene grew up in Delano and graduated from Delano High School in 1960. She met and married the love of her life Bernard George Psyk and they were united in marriage on September 5, 1964 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano, and to this union three children were blessed. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She worked at a number of local businesses as a cashier, sales associate, baker, cake decorator but was most famously known as the tootsie roll lady by several generations of bank customers who grew up with her as a teller at the State Bank of Delano.
Irene possessed a large smile, an easy demeanor and a memory for names and faces that allowed her make friends easily.
Irene and Bernie made their home in Delano and were active members of the Delano Catholic Community. Irene loved to quilt, putter in the garden, fish with her husband, polka dance and play cards. She loved volunteering at the church counting money and donated hundreds of her handmade quilts to organizations for children in need.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Martha Wandersee. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bernie; children Julie Flemming, Renee (Brandon) Olson, Mark (Amanda) Psyk; grandchildren Jacob (Kiersten) Flemming, Harrison Olson, Cole Weber, Haily (Grant) Weber; siblings Joan (Donald) Yantes and Marty (Marilyn) Wandersee.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Parish, St. Peter Campus in Delano, Minnesota. A gathering will be held prior to the Mass from 9:30-11 AM, with a rosary service at 9:15 in St. Martha’s Hall of the St. Peter campus. A luncheon will be held immediately following in Handzel Hall of the St. Joseph Campus.
