Kelly E. Morgan
May 21, 2024
Kelly Morgan, Miskwa Bimiizh Ikwe (Red Willow Woman), a beloved soul who touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 surrounded by her family during ceremony. In March of 2020 she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. She underwent 6 weeks of radiation and fought a courageous battle that ultimately resulted in the loss of her eyesight. However, she never quit, shortly after a 3 month stay at the Mayo Clinic she rehabbed valiantly in order to attend her son Jerald’s wedding in the summer of 2023.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kelly was the daughter of Melvin Morgan Sr and Laura (Kitto) Morgan. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School and went on to make a significant impact in her community.
Kelly’s journey was one of resilience and compassion. She married her husband, Troy Roberts Sr., on May 24th, 1986, and together they raised four children. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she dedicated her career to helping others. Kelly earned her associate’s degree and worked as a paralegal at a local law firm before transitioning to the Minneapolis American Indian Center. There, she served as a child welfare tribal liaison, advocating fearlessly for those in need.
Her work was more than a job; it was a calling. Kelly maintained close connections with the people she assisted, ensuring that their lives were touched not only by her professional expertise but also by her genuine care. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her laughter was contagious. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including her love for coffee and her passion for sewing—a skill she inherited from her mother and passed down to her daughter.
Kelly’s legacy lives on through her family, especially her cherished grandchildren. The only part of her brave fight with her brain tumor that ever dulled her spirit was that it took away her sight and she couldn’t bear to not see her beloved grandbabies. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. We remember her as a beacon of light, a tireless advocate, and a source of laughter. Kelly departed this world far too soon, but her impact will forever resonate. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of sharing their lives with her.
