Daniel Joseph Borrell

Daniel Joseph Borrell, age 82 of Waverly, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family, on December 31st, 2021. He was born on June 26th, 1939 to Joseph and Emily (Coyea) Borrell on the family farm in Waverly, Minnesota.
Dan graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Waverly and attended St. Cloud State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Following his schooling, Dan served in the United States Air Force, where he was honorably discharged.
Dan was united in marriage to Marie Zimmerman on May 28th, 1960, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, Minnesota. To this union, three children were blessed. In 1990, Marie passed away. On July 3rd, 1993, Dan was united in marriage to Mary Jane Forbes in St. Peter Minnesota. They made their home in Waverly.
Dan began his career in education, then progressed into the insurance bond underwriting field, eventually working his way into owning his own firm in 1984.
Dan was involved in his community, giving his time and efforts to a plethora of programs. He was an active member of St. Mary’s parish, the ELKS, and coaching. He was an integral part of many community projects and various sports programs all the way up until his passing. Dan’s interests included fast cars, farm-all tractors, and history.
Dan was preceded in death by his wives Marie in 1990, and Mary Jane in 2018; brothers Donald (Marcella) Borrell, Marion Borrell; sister Luella (John) Jandro. He is survived by his children Joe (Barb) Borrell, Bryan (Penny) Borrell, and Ann (Rob) Geurink; grandchildren Justin (Brooke) Borrell, Kyle (Sarah) Borrell, Braden (Kaitlin) Borrell, Jimmy Borrell, Patty (A.J.) Masset, Marie (Sean) Slattery, and Matt Geurink; great grandchildren Oakley, Evelyn, and Ryleigh; step-children Tim (Angela) Litzinger and Cheryl (Greg) Degges; 19 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren; brothers Gerald (Therese) Borrell, Clayton (Geraldine) Borrell; sisters-in-law Sherry Borrell and Colleen Cahill; special friend Elane Pepin; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 8th 2022 at Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Visitation occured from 4-7 PM with a 7 PM rosary service on Friday, January 7th in the Parish Center at St. Mary Church. Visitation continued Saturday morning from 9-10:45 AM prior to the Mass, also in the Parish Center. Interment with Military Honors was in the church cemetery. A special thank you to the staff at Hennepin County Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family which will be donated to the Waverly Veterans Memorial Wall and St Mary Catholic Church in Waverly.
