Louis Herman, age 89 of Delano, passed away on June 15, 2023. He was born on November 22, 1933, to Claus and Lillian (Groskreutz) Eckhoff in Kimball, Minnesota.
Lou grew up in the communities of Kimball and Delano. Lou was baptized at the St. John’s Lutheran church in Kimball and confirmed at Mount Olive Lutheran church in Delano in 1947. He attended and graduated Delano High School and enjoyed playing baseball, football, and basketball. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Korea and learned Telegraphy. After serving his country he married Barb, and they made a home in Long Lake. He then went on to become a computer programmer for Honeywell. He was married to Barb for 35 years and had two children Kim and Wade. He retired from Honeywell and after Barb’s passing, he met and later married Lucy for 21 years and enjoyed their time in Florida and then up at Webb Lake. He enjoyed taking trips to Washington D.C., Germany, Yosemite, and the Black Hills. He enjoyed spending time with the family and having barbeques and fishing. He was always positive, loved coaching little league and always helped people out. His presence will be missed.
He is preceded in death by Claus and Lillian Eckhoff, wife Barb Eckhoff, daughter Kim Eckhoff, brother Don Eckhoff and sister-in-law Joyce Eckhoff and wife Lucy Eckhoff.
Lou is survived by son Wade (Michele) Eckhoff of Eden Prairie, grandchildren Austin & Briana Eckhoff of Eden Prairie, Alanna (Jeremy) Homa of Shorewood, Chandra Boulette of Chaska, great grandchildren Henry & Dinah Homa of Shorewood. Stepsons Jeff (Deb) Melby of Minnetonka and Rick (Tammy) Melby of Wyoming.
A memorial service was held at 11 AM on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation was held for one hour prior to the service, all at the church. Inurnment with military honors was in Watertown Public Cemetery.
