Delores A. Cook (Farnick)
February 6, 2024
Delores Ann (Farnick) Cook known as Dolly to family and friends, age 93 of Delano, passed away on February 6, 2024. She was the first-born child to Leo and Addie (Japs) Farnick on June 21, 1930 in Delano, Minnesota.
Dolly grew up in Delano and as a child loved going to her Grandma Japs farm. She was a graduate of Delano High School in 1948.
Sonny and Dolly were introduced to each other by Marion Hayes. It must have been love at first sight because it wasn’t long before there was a marriage proposal and a wedding on August 19, 1950, and of course Marion was a bridesmaid.
Sonny and Dolly had four children Gary, Ellen, Cindy and Terry.
A surprise 25th wedding anniversary was celebrated in 1975 which was a cherished event.
Dolly lost her one true love in 1977 when Sonny passed away. With the support of family and friends, and her own inner strength she moved forward with the challenges of being a young widow. Her daughter Ellie and son-in-law Joe were of great help to her during this time, even moving in to her home.
Dolly worked for over thirty years for the Delano Public Schools. First as an Assistant Cook and then as the Head Cook. Dolly used many of her own recipes for the hot lunch program and a favorite of the students were her home-made cinnamon rolls.
Dolly did love cooking and baking. There were always cookies, bars and other sweet treats at her home. Everyone had their favorites including her sugar cookies, blueberry coffee cake, chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and chicken and dumplings.
Dollys greatest joy was the births of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent time babysitting many of them and as they got older she always had fun going to the Peppermint Twist with them.
Dolly will be greatly missed and forever loved by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sonny; in-laws Frank and Bertha Cook; siblings Marvin, Harlan, Gordon, and Ronald; Kathleen Farnick; and Donna Weiss.
Delores is survived by her children Ellie (Joe) Jerde, Gary (Ma Sol) Cook, Cindy (Dean) Mosiman, Terry (Dawn) Cook; grandchildren Clint (Dusty) Jerde, Chrissy (Andrew) Davis, Ashley (Sam) Nordlie, Jessica (fiancé Jason) Cook, Matt Mosiman and Sam Mosiman; great-grandchildren Brady Jerde, Delilah Jerde, Jacob Davis, Lily Davis, Emma Nordlie and SJ Nordlie; sister Carol Farnick; sisters-in-law Kay Farnick and Joyce Farnick as well as other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Delano United Methodist Church in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, February 9th at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, and continue Saturday morning from 10-11 AM prior to the service, at the church.
