Marvin T. Salonek age 75 of Watertown passed away on Friday, March 04, 2011 in his home with his family by his side. He was born on February 18, 1936 to Louis and Frances (Ceryes) Salonek in Franklin Township, Minnesota.

Marvin was united in marriage to Isabell Fiecke on October 15, 1960 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, Minnesota.

Marvin served in the USAF. He was employed by Carver County as a road maintenance foreman with 30+ years of service. Marvin served on the Watertown Fire Department for 48+ years, during which time he served as Captain and Chief among other duties. He was honored twice as Fire Fighter of the Year, once in 1997 and than 2008 by the Minnesota Fire Fighters Association.

Marvin was an avid outdoorsman; deer hunting with his family, fishing trips and getaway’s up north were family activities that Marvin truly cherished. He could make anything. If a project was in order, Marvin would get his tape measure out of his pocket and create plans as you spoke to him. His abilities carried over into his garden. His prolific green thumb was a bountiful gift to the many friends who received his grown goodies.

Marvin was preceded in death his parents, Louis and Frances Salonek and a brother-in-law George Swartzer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Izy, children Kevin Salonek, Connie (Greg) Theisen, Karen (Gary) Templin, Anna Remer; grandchildren: Amy Salonek, Jason (Bethany) Theisen, Anthony Templin, David Theisen, Kristen Templin, Travis Remer, Patrick Theisen, Zac Remer, Breanna Remer, Sophie Remer; great grandson Jacoby Theisen; siblings and spouses Dorothy and George Campbell, Irene and Walter Swartzer, Marge and Mylen Cardinal, Rosemary Swartzer; as well as many other family members.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano. Rev. Thomas Balluff celebrated the Mass with interment in the church cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the Watertown American Legion Eugene Earley Post #121. Casket bearers were Marvin’s grandchildren.
