Gayle W. Smith age 81 of Maple Plain, formerly of LaPorte, Indiana died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Haven Homes in Maple Plain, Minnesota. He was born December 24, 1929 to Rupert and Dollie (Roach) Smith in LaPorte, Indiana.

Gayle served in the USMC during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954, being honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He possessed a lifelong love of farming and was an accomplished mechanic. He could fix anything. Gayle also possessed a love of dancing, as long as it was a polka or square dancing.

Gayle was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law Barbara Smith and nephews Daniel Smith and Steve Six. He is survived by his children Gayle T Smith and Samantha Postelmans; step-daughter Bunny Siebert; and numerous grandchildren; brother Duane and sister Patsy (Glenn) Six; nieces Rebecca, Ellen and Sharon, and nephew Duane; and the great nieces and –nephews who loved him dearly; as well as many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday March 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Dunstans’s Anglican Church, 4241 Brookside Ave. S. St. Louis Park, MN. Visitation 1 hour prior to services in the church on Friday. Interment in the Salem Heights Cemetery in LaPorte, Indiana.
