Dick was born in Lonsdale, Mn to Benjamin Joseph and Frances Mary (Novak) Vosejpka and had an older sister Lorraine. He grew up and went to school in Lonsdale and New Prague, playing baseball for the town team as a pitcher. He went to St. Thomas and then the University of Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers. He married Lois Ann Scholz on Sept. 6th, 1952 and built their home on Rolling Acres Road in Excelsior, Mn. Along came 6 kids, Jean (Greg) Hafften, Betsy (Ryan) Hintz, Tom (Annie), Ken, Karen (Rich) Blackmer and Ben. He is a Grandpa to Christopher and Jeremy Pultz, Bethany and Ellen Blackmer and Marnee” (Greg) Ledet. “Greatest Grandpa” to Aaron Atchison, Zoe Steckelberg, Wyatt Pultz and Lane Ledet.
Dick had a passion for great architecture, especially by Frank Lloyd Wright. During his “tiger” years he was steady of hand, brilliant of mind and wild with imagination. During his career in Wayzata and Chaska, he designed over 40 banks, 3 churches and over 50 commercial buildings.
“Dad” had and eye for art, a baritone voice for Barbershop singing, a green thumb for all things growing, a unique perspective on life and an appetite for hearty food and drink. Dad had a sometimes quiet, sometimes fierce love for his family. He enjoyed his home on the lake, watching his kids swim in the pool, playing catch in the field, listening to great symphonies on his home made hi-fi system and whistling through his teeth while drawing. An avid hunter and fisherman, he took his family on adventures in Montana, Michigan and Canada.
He built his retirement home in St. James City, FL and enjoyed many winters there with Lois. In 2009 he and Lois moved back to Buffalo, MN where he passed away surrounded by his family. Dick also enjoyed a special relationship with his many caregivers, especially Tiffany, Rebecca and Lori, who took care of him for the last two years.
Internment will be private with his wife, children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
