Michael Eugene McDonough

Michael Eugene McDonough, age 70 of Montrose, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. He was born on April 28, 1951 to Eugene and Mary (Davidson) McDonough in Minneapolis.
Michael attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Waverly. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was honorably discharged. He also served in the National Guard. Michael was an active member of the Waverly Legion and marched in the Memorial Day and Waverly Days parades.
Michael married Susan Krause on October 8, 1988. He attended and earned an Associate Degree from Minneapolis Community College. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, taking his grandchildren to the park and movies. A routine of going down the slide first to ensure there were no spiders started with granddaughter Christina. Michael also enjoyed playing 1st base in a fastpitch softball league in Waverly.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Mary; brother Harold; grandson Hudson Karau; father-in-law and mother-in-law Marvin and Virginia Krause. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan; children John ( Kelly) Carpentier, Jennifer Carpentier, Jesse (Wendy) Carpentier, Veronica Fasching, Wessley Karau, and Curtis Karau; 18 grandchildren Christopher Carpentier, Zachary Carpentier, Katelyn Carpentier, Daniel Carpentier, Josephine Carpentier, Chloe Hoedeman, Christina (Jesse) Mengelkoch, Samantha Anderson, Shane Smith, Lily Bebo, Leah Bebo, Madelyn (Nathan) Turner, Sophia Carpentier, Bella Carpentier, Bennett Carpentier, Wyatt Fasching, Jase Taylor, and Keaton Karau; 7 great grandchildren Carson Anderson, Brody Mengelkoch, Beau Mengelkoch, Jack Brooks, Kolt Forstrom, Korbyn Forstrom, and Henry Zumwalt; siblings Rita (John) McAlpine, Helen (Daniel) Rieland, John McDonough & friend (Barb Sohns), Thomas McDonough, and Dale (Mary) McDonough; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Memorial service was held at 11 AM on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano. The service was livestreamed through the church. A Gathering of family and friends was Friday, from 9-11 AM prior to the service, at the church. Inurnment at 11:30 on Saturday, May 21st 2022 with Military Honors by the Waverly American Legion Post #305 will be in the W. Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Delano.
