Alfred Altendorf

Alfred L. “Al” Altendorf, age 85 of Rogers, formerly Loretto passed away on May 17, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born on October 31, 1928 in Independence Township, Minnesota to Carl and Mary (Tucking) Altendorf. Al honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. After working for Red Owl for 37 years, he retired and worked for Kumphel Chimes Clock Shop and Walmart. He loved fishing, time at the lake and traveling with Sylvia. Playing cards, church dinners and his Jack Daniels “kool aid” were some of his passions. We will deeply miss the man known by many names…Grub, Aly Can (meaning Al can do it), Alphie, Papa Al and Papa Bear.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; children Nancy, Mary in infancy and Joseph in infancy; son-in-law Jeff.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Sylvia; children Dan (Lauri) Altendorf, David (Deb) Altendorf and Karen Ericksen; 9 grandchildren Elizabeth (John) Nemec, Robert (Christie) Altendorf, Tim (Ayla) Ericksen, Molly (fiance Pedro Pineiro) Ericksen, Isaac Wilson, Andrea Hamilton, Katrina Ardolf, Taylor Ardolf and Kelly Ardolf; 4½ great grandchildren James and Evelyn Nemec, Carter Ericksen and Liam Pineiro; siblings John, Helen and Mary Lou and many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10 A.M. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Medina. Visitation was from 9-10 A.M. prior to Mass at the Church.
