Arthur “Art” Balthaser Fries, age 87 of Delano, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia. He was born on January 5, 1932 to George and Annie (Studuman) Fries in Arlington, MN.

Art grew up in Henderson, MN and was the fourth youngest of 16 children. He served in the U.S. Marines from October 24, 1952 to January 29, 1955 during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and became a lifetime member of the American Legion in Delano, MN.

Art was united in marriage to Shirley Kahle on January 26, 1954 in Henderson. They raised two sons, Ronnie and Garry. Art lived his life to his fullest potential. He enjoyed farming, camping, hunting, fishing and helping others any chance he got. Art always had a smile on his face, never complained and always had a special place in his heart for anyone.

Art was preceded in death by his son Ronnie; parents; many brothers, sisters and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley; son Garry (Jeannie) Fries; granddaughters Tori Fries and Kayla (Ed) Swanson; great grandchildren Roman and Ava Swanson; sister Alice Gruhot; brother Gil (Jeanie) Fries; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain. A Gathering of family and friends took place on Saturday, from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Private family inurnment was in the church cemetery.
