Bernard Fred Nieman, “Bernie” age 83 of Delano passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018. He was born June 20, 1934 in St. Mathias Township, Minnesota to Henry and Irma (Fietsam) Nieman.
Bernie was united in marriage to Rita Pearson on August 10, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown, Minnesota. He graduated from Buffalo High School and served in the US Army from June 9, 1955 until his Honorable Discharge on April 9, 1957.
After the military, Bernie owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station in Delano. After leaving Phillips 66 he went to work at Gambles Corporation until he became an insurance agent and owned his own Farmers Insurance Agency until retirement.
Bernie was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his son James; his parents Henry and Irma Nieman as well as his brother Gordon Nieman. Bernie is survived by his wife Rita (Pearson) of 60 years; children Brenda Nieman (Mike Potter), Julie (Steve) Wagner; grandson Christopher Wagner; siblings Eileen (Jack) Register, Mary (Mel) Friendt, Henry Nieman and Rosie, George (Bonnie) Nieman, Dennis (Carolyn) Nieman; sister-in-law Laverne Nieman.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 3 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Delano. Gathering of family and friends took place from 9 to 11 a.m. in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. There was a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday. Inurnment with military honors was in the Calvary Cemetery in Delano, Minnesota.
