Burton W. Koenecke

Burton Walter Koenecke, age 90 of Delano, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday June 27, 2024. He was born October 30,1933 to Walter and Fern (Boyington) Koenecke.

Burt grew up on a farm near St. James, Minnesota and graduated from St. James High School. Burt went on to serve his country enlisting as an Army paratrooper.

Burt was a very loving, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.

He met and married the love of his life Virginia (Mossengren) on March 9th, 1957. They were blessed with three sons. They made their home in Delano, Minnesota where they raised their children. Burt was very proud of his 29 years working for Buhler as an engineer.

Burt was an active member of the Delano United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the Delano American Legion Club and the Delano Sportsman Club.

Burt cherished spending time at their cabin hunting, fishing and sitting by the fire with family and friends. Many wonderful family traditions and memories were created there. Burt enjoyed golf and gathering for coffee with his wonderful friends.

Burt’s family and his faith were very important to him. His faith in Jesus was evident and he shared it freely.

Burt was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian, and five older sisters Lila, Arlene, LaVonne, Margie, Betty, and their spouses.

He is survived by his beautiful wife Gini of 67 years; son Brad and his wife Kathy (Bauman) and their children Nicole (Eric) Forbes, Laura (Mason) Milliken, Kari (Zach) Fisher, and Anna Koenecke; son Greg and his wife Lisa (Long) and their children Kayla Koenecke, Mitchell (Courtney) Koenecke, and Joel (Eleanor) Koenecke. Burt was also blessed with 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Burt left a great legacy and will be missed beyond measure. Burt often said, “I have had a great life”.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Delano United Methodist Church (33100 County Line Road) in Delano, Minnesota. A visitation will be held prior from 1-2 PM. Interment in Delano Public Cemetery.
