Catherine Anne Engels, age 54, of Delano, MN passed away peacefully February 28th at her home. Cathy was born January 26th, 1960 in Bay City MI, the daughter of Dr. Jerry and Dianne Hagman. Cathy graduated from Columbus High School in Marshfield WI in 1978 where she participated in the glee club, yearbook, and the mission club.
Cathy had a passion for the medical field which was evident by her volunteer work as a candy striper at St, Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield WI. She later got a job there as a unit ward clerk. In the mid-eighties, she met and fell in love with Marty Engels and were united in marriage September 23rd 1988.
She graduated from Mid-State Technical College in Medical Transcription and Ashworth University for Business Management and worked for the hospital until 1995. She continued that passion as she moved with her family to Delano, Minnesota and worked for CBSA and Park Nicollet. Cathy was a very dedicated person and loved her job.
Cathy had an innate passion for her favorite football team, the Packers. One may mistake the family room of her home as a museum of memorabilia and souvenirs. Her favorite vacations brought her to Florida, California, Colorado, Washington DC, and New York. Some of these destinations were merely to watch the Packers play. Being a dedicated fan provided an easy outlet for her family to fill gifts ideas bearing the Packer logo.
Cathy also had a passion for fishing and heading up north to her parent’s cabin. She loved to bake at an early age and continued to bring her flair for surfing the internet, magazines and cookbooks for the next best recipe. She loved to garden with her husband Marty and helped can tomatoes, beans and…whatever the bounty provided.
Cathy was truly someone who cared, shared and ultimately gave of herself. She held her family and friends close to her heart. She adored her cats Snickers (little shorty), Dexter (BOO), Beans (Big Shorty), and Novy.
Cathy will be missed, loved, and in the hearts of her loving husband and best friend Marty: children Jerome Verch of Marshfield, Wi., Sarah Engels of Delano; Jessica(Martin) Erlandson Onalaska, Trisha Engels of St. Paul, Anthony Engels of Brainerd, Parents: Jerome J. and M. Dianne Hagman of Marshfield, Wi, Siblings; Charles F. (Jill) Hagman of Marshfield, Wi. and Maureen (Russell) Lewis of Hudson, WI.
Grandchildren: Landon Verch, Wrigley and Easton Erlandson, Kyra, Chloe, and Zachary Engels. Nephew and Nieces; Benjamin and Margaret Lewis ,and Shannon and Elise Hagman.
She was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Frank and Gertrude Hagman, Charles and Elizabeth Erasmus, and Mildred Erasmus.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 235 S. 2nd St. Delano, Minnesota. Gathering of family and friends was held in Martha”s Hall of the St. Peter Catholic Church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, prior to the Mass.
