8/31/2014
Curtis Bruce Skog Peterson, age 73 of Delano, MN passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 31st after a long battle with pancreatic cancer and other health issues. He didn’t like to be described as heroic, but he’ll always be our hero.
Curt was born on March 25, 1941 in Albert City, IA, graduated high school in Bricelyn, MN and attended college at Luther in Decorah, IA and the University of MN-Twin Cities. He married his beloved Helen in 1963. They celebrated their 51st anniversary shortly before his death.
He received his Masters in social work from the U of MN and worked for Hennepin County as a social worker in a variety of children services and child protection programs. In 1976, Curt and Helen moved from Minneapolis to a farm in Delano, MN. Curt continued to work for the county while they learned to grow crops and raise animals. In the early 90s, they started to plant apple trees and their business, Fall Harvest Orchard was born. What started as a roadside produce stand turned into a thriving seasonal business. Curt retired in 1997 and happily transitioned to being “Farmer Curt of FHO”.
Survived by Helen (“his babe”), son Anthony, daughter Sarah (Brett), grandsons Josh and Ben, sister Susie, brother Pete (Pat) and many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and staff. Also survived by Gracie, the only dog who ever won his heart. He treasured his whole family but mention must be made of his special relationship with his Albert City Aunts, Doris and Cele Skog, and Dale Zingg, his honorary father in law.
Memorial service was 11 AM on Tuesday, September 9th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 513 Madison St. SE, Watertown, MN. Gathering of family and friends was at Trinity from 4-8 PM on Monday, September 8th as well as an hour prior to the service on the 9th. Private burial at Knapp Cemetery in Cokato, MN at a later date.
