Darlene Henry
June 30, 2016
Darlene Margaret (Hollerbach) Henry was born May 20 to William and Alice Hollerbach at St. John’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was united in the sacrament of holy matrimony to Robert (Bob) Henry and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Dawn Marie and Michelle Lea.
Darlene’s life was centered around her family. She raised her daughters and watched her grandchildren when they were young. Darlene and Bob would have all four of their grandchildren over on Saturday evenings for sleepovers and root beer floats after Saturday mass and dinner at Red’s Café or Waverly Café. She and Bob also enjoyed fishing with their family especially at Rock Lake. She enjoyed “antiquing” and gardening and was an amazing cook, especially known for her holiday feasts, chicken and dumplings and homemade soups. Darlene reveled in the holidays and anyone who visited her house around Christmas could attest to the Christmas wonderland she created every year.
Darlene was a spiritual and giving person, such traits evident at a young age when she would accompany her parents and family friends to visit and cheer up young children in the Gillette Hospital. She became involved with the Red Cross during high school and again later in life volunteering for over four decades. Darlene was also involved with the United Fund for over 25 years, a member of the Queens Committee of Waverly for 16 years, was a weather spotter for the National Weather Service for over 25 years, she was also an election judge for Waverly and helped maintain the flower garden in front of the City Hall for years. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly and an active member of the adoration chapel since its inception including writing the weekly adoration article for the church bulletin.
Darlene and her husband, Bob were known for their kindness and helping people. They were also lovers and rescuers of animals including a special cat, CC, that Bob rescued from a fire Darlene nursed back to health and was a member of the family for twenty years. Darlene often helped Bob and the rest of the Waverly Fire Department during large fires by bringing food and water. There was no limit to the kindness and generosity of Darlene and Bob, they were faithful servants of God, their family and their community.
On June 30, as peacefully as the sun rose, Darlene went home to be with our Lord and reunited with her beloved husband.
She is predeceased by her husband, Bob, her parents, William and Alice, a brother, LeRoy Hollerbach, a sister Rosemary (Hollerbach) Erdman, and a great-grandson, Andrew Kittock. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Marie Kittock and her husband Patrick; Michelle Lea Streich and her husband, Richard; her four grandchildren and their spouses, Stephanie (Keith) Salvatore; Brian (Nicole) Kittock; Amanda (Aaron) Buzard; and Rachael (Chris) Hardie; her great-grandchildren, Payton, Grace and Jackson Kittock and Eli and Theo Buzard; brother Russel Hollerbach; as well as her faithful companion dog, Jack and her great-grandpuppy, Marco.
