Dorothy Gertrude Campbell, “Dot” age 81 of Waconia, Formerly of Watertown died on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Lighthouse of Waconia with her husband by her side. She was born September 3, 1929 to Louis and Frances (Ceryes) Salonek in Delano, Minnesota.
Dorothy referred to herself as a Blacksmith’s daughter; working in her father’s shop is how she met her soon to be husband George Campbell. This union was blessed with two sons. Dorothy possessed many skills. She was known for baking, creating celebration cakes, sometimes employing iron work to hold up the tiers. Her garden that George and she tended was amazing and award winning. Sewing custom clothing, wedding dresses and vestments were just some of the needle work that Dorothy created over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Frances Salonek, a brother Marvin Salonek and a brother-in-law George Swartzer.
She is survived by her husband George; sons Rick (Kathy) Campbell, Jeff Campbell; siblings Irene and Walter Swartzer, Margie and Mylen Cardinal; Rosemary Swartzer and Izy Salonek.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown, Minnesota. Rev. Joseph Fink celebrated the Mass with interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
