Dorothy G. Tulkki, age 94 of Delano, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Delano. She was born August 2, 1921 to Leonard J. and Theresa (Oestreich) Rieder in Delano, Minnesota.

Dorothy and John W. Tulkki were united in marriage on August 2, 1943. They celebrated 59 years together.

Dorothy graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1943. While John was serving overseas in the Army, Dorothy taught Home Economics in Delano, Watertown and Yakima, Washington. After WWII ended, they were reunited and made Delano their home. After raising their five children, Dorothy returned to teaching at Delano High School until her retirement.

Dorothy was a life-long, faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Delano, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years.

Dorothy was an active member of the Delano community. She volunteered with many community organizations over the years.

Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved gathering with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, music and travel. She will be remembered for her generous hospitality.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband John; brothers Clarence, Walter, Ted, Leonard, Arthur and Laurence Rieder; sister Esther Keplinger.

Dorothy is survived by her children Janet (Paul) Kosower, John (Jean) Tulkki, Burton (Marcie) Tulkki, Barry Tulkki (Margie Peterson) and Deanna (Hal) Becker; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; many relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service was held 11 A.M. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Delano United Methodist Church, 3310 County Line Rd, Delano. A gathering of family and friends was 10-11 A.M. prior to the service at the church.
