Edward Marketon

Edward Anthony Marketon age 84 of Waverly was surround by family when he passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. He was born January 22, 1930 in Middleville Township to Thomas and Agnes (Baldy) Marketon.
Ed graduated from Howard Lake High School. He was united in marriage to Florence B. Karels on January 24, 1950 at St. Mary’s Church in Waverly. They made their home in Waverly where they raised their seven children. Prior to going into business for himself, he was employed at Eddie Ford Sales in Waverly. Ed started, owned and operated Marketon’s Auto Body until 1992. He continued to run Marketon’s Gun Shop and worked for the City of Waverly on a part time basis mowing lawns and plowing ice rinks until his declining health.
Ed was very involved in the Knights of Columbus, helping to build the K C Hall in Waverly, he and Florence also managed the K C Hall for many years. Ed was an active member of the Knights of Columbus council #1556 as well as being a Fourth Degree Knight.
He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He was a charter member of the Waverly Gun Club. Ed and Florence, along with family were involved in black powder cannon shoots and were members of the First Waverly Volunteers. Ed taught firearms safety for over 50 years. He was a member of the Waverly Winter Wanderers Snowmobile Club.
Ed and Florence loved to travel; they made trips to Germany, Austria, Spain, Kansas and Texas to visit their son while in the Army. In later years they enjoyed countless camping trips around the state of Minnesota with family and friends.
Family meant everything to him. He spent countless hours with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed every minute. His faith in God was his strength during hard times.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Florence; parents Thomas and Agnes Marketon; sons-in-law Michael Miller and Darrel Driver. He is survived by his children and spouses Philip and Vicki Marketon, Bonnie Driver, Bernard and Margaret Marketon, Kathy Miller-Daiker and Jim Daiker, Mike and Jeanie Marketon, Patty and Kurt Kruckman, Bob and Brenda Marketon; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; siblings and spouses Margaret (Jerry) Thiemann, Walter (Jackie) Marketon, Arthur (Jolene) Marketon, Louie Marketon, Helen (Bob) Bauman, Rosie Milewski and Martha (Larry) Clark; as well as caregiver Cindy Grangroth and family.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Waverly, Minnesota. Rev. Kenneth O’Hotto will officiate at the Mass with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. KC service and continued on Saturday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s parish center in Waverly, Minnesota.
