ElRoy H. Vidlund, “Weed” age 87 of Watertown passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Elim Home in Watertown. He was born June 14, 1926 to Gunner and Evelyn (Skarlund) Vidlund in Watertown, Minnesota.
ElRoy graduated from Watertown High School and enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Dorothy McDonald on June 27, 1953. ElRoy was employed by Mid America Dairyman for over 30 years and Quinns Transfer for over 30 years. He was an avid baseball player, umpire and Minnesota Twins Fan. He enjoyed hunting, Deer and Grouse, as well as going fishing. He was enjoyed by the staff of Elim Home, who were so good to him.
ElRoy was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; son-in-law Bill Johnson; sister and brother-in-law Lois and Merle Mattson; brother Merle and brothers-in-law Ewan McDonald, Ed Joe McDonald, K.J. McDonald and Flip McDonald. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws Kathleen and Darrell Carlson, Mary and Steve Volz, Jane and Wade Juntunen; grandchildren: Rachel Erickson, Sarah and Derek Coles, Matthew and Ashley Kroneberger, Jerad and Katrina Carlson, Kyle Carlson, Katie and Matthew Hodgden, Kelli Johnson and fiancé Tom Gehrke, Emily Johnson; Great grandchildren Kylee Erickson, Eliana Erickson and Andrew Coles; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Roger Tatting; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Abbie McDonald, Barb McDonald, Margaret and Earl Borer, Rita McDonald, Kate McDonald, Brigid McDonald, Jane McDonald, Marge Vidlund; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown, Minnesota. Interment was in the church cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the Watertown American Legion Eugene Earley Post #121.
