Elton Schuette

Elton Emil Schuette, age 84 of Delano passed away June 19, 2014. Elton was born on April 20, 1930 to Emil and Martha (Elling) Schuette in Plato, MN. He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1948, and enrolled at Dunwoody Technical Institute. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.
On February 26, 1955 Elton was united in marriage to Gloria A. Eng, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Odin, Minnesota. The couple lived in Minneapolis and Bloomington. In 1969 the family relocated to rural Delano where they built the house that Elton designed for the family.
Elton worked for 50 years in the reinforcing steel industry at Gruman Steel, and as president of Schad Engineering. In the 1970”s he also started farming the land in Delano.
Elton was active in his church and was a dedicated volunteer. He enjoyed time at the lake cabin on Sugar Lake in Maple Lake, and spending time with the family.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Myron Schuette, Roland Schuette and Willmer Schuette; two sisters Norma Schuette and Joyce Templin; brother-in-law Earl Templin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria; children Doug (Judy) Schuette, Beth (Frank) Boyle and Lori (Steve) Checkal; 6 grandchildren Jake (Chelsia) Checkal, Luke Checkal, Caleb Checkal, Rachel Boyle, Daniel Boyle and Matt Schuette; 3great-granddaughters Charlotte, Naomi and Annabelle Checkal; sisters Elaine Schuette and Lois (Dave) Greene; sisters-in-law Marianne Schuette, Dorothy Schuette and Mavis Schuette; many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service was Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11 AM at Light of Christ Lutheran Church, Delano. A Gathering of family and friends was Saturday, 9:30-11 AM prior to the service at the church. A private inurnment with Military Honors will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
