Eugene George Henry, beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024, at the age of 82 at Regions Hospital. Born on May 31st, 1942, to John and Hildegard (Klein) Henry, Gene was one of 8 siblings.

At the young age of 18, Gene served our country and was drafted to the Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He received an Honorable Discharge after two years.

Gene was the loving husband of 43 years to his wife, Betty Ditsch. They married in Las Vegas on March 12, 1981. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. His daughters, Debbie and Terri loved him dearly and were glad when Gene and Betty moved to Wisconsin in 2015 to be near them.

Gene loved to spend time outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, going on vacations or spending time with family. He especially looked forward to his winters in South Padre Island, TX with Betty. His sense of humor and storytelling were legendary. He had an ability to bring people together, filling rooms with laughter and telling stories of days gone by. You could often find him having a beer at noon and listening to old country songs.

Gene is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Debbie (Todd) Brecka and Terri (Bob) Peters, grandchildren, Tyler (Sam) Peters, Ashley (Tyler) Hanson, and Kaitlyn (Ryan) Draeger. Great grandchildren Wyatt and Tessa Hanson, Klara, Parker and Sawyer Peters, Easton and Riley Gedatus, Cole and Levi Draeger. He is also survived by his brother, Dale (Sharon) Henry, Roy (Sylvia) Henry, sister, Pam Henry (Brian) Neaton, sister-in-law Peggy Henry, brother-in-law Dudley Greiner and many other family and friends.

Gene is proceeded in death by his father and mother, John and Hildegard (Klein) Henry, brothers Bob Henry, baby John Henry and Jerry Henry and sister Judy (Henry) Greiner.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly, Minnesota. A gathering of family and friends will be held prior from 9-10:45 AM, with an 8:45 AM rosary service, all at the church. Inurnment with military honors in the church cemetery.
