Florence B. Marketon age 79 of Waverly died on Monday, February 15, 2010. She was born May 18, 1930 to Hugo and Alma (Worm) Karels in Waconia, Minnesota.

Florence graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1948. She married Edward Marketon on January 24, 1950 at the church of St. Mary’s in Waverly. They made their home in Waverly where they raised their seven children. Florence was very active in the church. She took over the making of baptismal bibs for the parish from her mother Alma when she passed away. She loved the outdoors, was an avid big game hunter, and charter member of the Waverly Gun Club. She and Ed along with friends were involved in black powder cannon shoots of which she captained her team Granny”s Gunners. Florence loved to sew and crochet. Florence loved to travel. She and Ed made trips to Germany, Austria, Spain, Kansas and Texas to visit their son while he was in the Army. Even when her health was failing she made a trip to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, in Belleville, IL. Last summer she and Ed visited the Grotto in Iowa. Both places provided a spiritual blessing and comfort for her. The last 10 years she has enjoyed countless camping trips around the state of Minnesota with family and friends.

Her family meant everything to her. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed every minute. Her faith in God was her strength during hard times.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents Hugo and Alma Karels; son-in-law Michael Miller; brother George Karels; sisters-in-law Evelyn and Carol Karels; brothers-in-law Joe Glunz, Duane Pylka, Leon A. Zachman, John Janson. She is survived by her husband Edward; children and spouses Philip and Vicki Marketon, Bonnie and Darrel Driver, Bernard and Margaret Marketon, Kathy Miller-Daiker and Jim Daiker, Mike and Jeanie Marketon, Patty and Kurt Kruckman, Bob and Brenda Marketon; 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters and spouse Geraldin Janson, Lorayn Zachman, Mary Ann and George Uecker; brother and spouse Mark and Giny Karels; sister-in-law Laura Karels.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly, Minnesota. Rev. Timothy Cloutier will officiate at the Mass with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and continue on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s parish center in Waverly, Minnesota.
