Janicula

Gary James, of Albertville, formerly Delano, passed away early Sunday morning, November 17, 2024, at the age of 78 surrounded by family. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother.

He was born on July 8th, 1946, to Jim and Joyce (Sinkel) Janicula. As a youth, Gary enjoyed hunting with his father and fishing with his uncles and family. He excelled in basketball, football, and baseball during his school years. He shared a camaraderie with his friends and was always happy when playing sports. After graduating from Delano High School in 1964, he continued playing in softball, golf, and bowling leagues.

He went to St. Cloud State for one year of college, then enlisted in the US Army where he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. While stationed overseas he traveled around Europe, with his favorite place being Italy. After four years, he was honorably discharged from the Army; returned to the U.S. and pursued a career in banking and car sales.

His memory will live in the hearts of all who knew him. He was the most understanding, supportive, and selfless father and grandfather. Gary always put his family first in everything he did and said. He was always there when his children and grandchildren needed him. There is a tremendous void in our lives as we try to move forward without him.

Gary loved spending time with his grandchildren and children, watching them in all their activities, going on family vacations and outings, and attending family events. Family meant everything to him. He enjoyed being with them; whether it be at one of the many activities, watching TV, piecing together puzzles, playing cards, shooting pool and winning, grilling, or simply talking about any topic for hours on end.

He is survived by his children Kari (Steve) Rankin and Ryan Janicula; grandchildren Kaylee Kouri, Hailey Rankin, Madison Rankin, and Isabel Rankin; siblings Bruce Janicula, Kathy Quist, and Lori Anderson. Gary is preceded in death by his parents; Jim and Joyce Janicula.

A public visitation will be held from 11AM – 12:30 PM at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, Minnesota on Monday, November 25, 2024. Private family (children and grandchildren) interment in East Mt. Olive Cemetery, Delano, Minnesota.
