Gladys Agnes Hayes age 96 of Montrose passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Estates of Delano. She was born on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1922 to Peter and Emma (Meyer) Huncha in Franklin Township, Minnesota.
Gladys was a homemaker and mother to her family. She immensely enjoyed working and tending her garden, growing the varieties of flowers, especially her begonias, canning the bountiful harvest, baking and embroidery. Lots of carpet rags were made into rugs. Socializing with friends over coffee was a highlight to her day. She was an accomplished baker, and she possessed the ability to cut bars into perfectly sized portions.
Gladys enjoyed playing cards, solitaire was her game. Another pastime that she enjoyed was sitting on the front porch watching the cars go by.
Gladys was united in marriage on November 16, 1955 to Roland Hayes at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delano, Minnesota. This union was blessed with two children.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Roland, her parents Peter and Emma Huncha; siblings Ambrose “Rastus” Huncha, Catherine “Toots” Hahnke, and Paul Huncha. She is survived by her children: son Stephen Hayes, daughter Judy (Dale) Paumen; sister-in-law Betty Huncha; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation took place on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, Minnesota. There was a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday evening. Visitation continued on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church prior to the Mass. Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Delano, Minnesota.
