Schmidt, Hugh Otto (Sonny) 91 of Delano, Mn. Born Sept. 6, 1924 near Hamel where he lived until entering the US Navy SEABEES in 1943. Spent most of his married life in Loretto, Greenfield & Rockford. Hugh died Nov. 21, 2015. Survived by wife of 69 years, Edie (Spurzem), 13 children; Ronald, Renee (Larry) Jordan, Roy, Randy (Cheryl), Rebecca (Steve) Neumann, Rick (Deb), Rodger (Sandra), Ruth (Kevin) Isaacson, Russell (Mary), Robert, Ralph, Rosemary, Ramona, 35 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and brothers Roger, Gordy (Katie), sisters, Oreta (Howie) Gray, Ival Fleming, brother & sister-in-law Roy and Rosie Spurzem, Many relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents Gordon & Ival, daughter Rachelle, grandson Donald, sister Marvel Miller. He leaves behind a legacy of commitment to family and service to the community. He volunteered many hours as youth baseball coach in Loretto, first organized in 1956, founded the Loretto Fire Dept where he was Fire Chief, served 8 years on Loretto city council, was Mayor of Greenfield 6 years. He was past Commander of the Rockford American Legion and recently a member of the Delano American Legion. He was a dedicated public servant, yet a private person. Wife and family were #1 in his life. He kept in constant contact with them through visits, phone and internet. His humor and wit will be missed by all. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am, Saturday November 28, 2015 at St Peter Catholic Church, Delano. Visitation Friday, November 27, 2015, 4-8 pm with 3:30 p.m. Rosary Service and continued Saturday 9:30-11:00 am prior to Mass ALL at Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church, Delano. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
