Jane V. Huncha (Hajicek)

Jane V. Huncha, age 94 of Delano, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at home with her family by her side. She was a twin, born on July 4, 1923 in Hutchinson, MN to Ben and Frances (Schultz) Hajicek.
Jane lost her mom when she was a teenager. She learned how to cook and sew. She enjoyed sewing so she attended the Peppin Academy of Design after high school. Jane found a job at Dayton’s Department store working in the fashion department. She went to work for Boulevard-Frachs in the sewing department and eventually became the department Supervisor. She had to leave her position to take care of responsibilities at home.
Jane met Valentine Huncha at a dance. They were united in marriage on April 23, 1955. They lived on his family farm in Delano where they raised 6 children. Jane tended a large vegetable garden, harvested fruit and planted flowers every year. She raised geese, chickens and ducks. Jane would also sew her children’s clothes. Besides taking care of the family and home, Jane went back into the work force from 1968-1981. She worked with rotational molding at a plastics factory in Maple Plain.
Jane always thought young. She ate mostly homegrown foods and always got plenty of exercise. She had a strong work ethic and Catholic values.
Jane suffered a stroke on her 91st birthday. In August, 2017 she was diagnosed with end stage breast cancer. Through it all, her family was by her side.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Valentine; son Joseph; parents Ben and Frances; siblings Georgia (her twin), Shirley and Virgil. She is survived by her children James, John, Carol (John) Race, Lorraine (Paul) Dalland, Charles (Marianna); 9 grandchildren Joshua, Adam, Chiara, Andrea and Felicia Race; Rachael, Nathan and Jacob Dalland and Abraham Huncha and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano. Visitation was Friday, 4-8 PM with a 7:30 PM Prayer Service at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. Visitation continued Saturday, 10-11AM prior to the Mass at the Church. Interment was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Delano.
