Jean Rasmussen
November 21st, 2019

Jean Marie Rasmussen was born on May 22, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Howard and Alice (Bodin) Graeber. Jean grew up in Lyndale, MN with her older brother Hart and her younger sister Joan.

Jean graduated from Mound High School. While working at Pure Oil in Wayzata, she met and later married James Vincent (“Vince”) Rasmussen on September 1, 1950. Vince and Jean settled in Maple Plain where they raised their 5 children. While her children were at school, she enjoyed being part of a women’s bowling league. Her and Vince were also on a couples bowling league in Delano where they made many life-long friends. After raising her family, Jean went to work for Nationwide Carriers and then Kortem’s, both in Maple Plain, until she retired.

Her children remember her as a devoted wife and mother. After Vince suffered a severe stroke, she selflessly took care of him for almost 13 years until he passed away in 1998. Jean was a hard worker who enjoyed being outdoors and doing yard work. She was a wonderful cook and also canned many of the items from her large garden. She was a huge football and golf fan, but NASCAR was her passion. She especially loved #24, Jeff Gordon. She also loved listening to country music.

Jean had a loner spirit. She enjoyed her family and friends, but also enjoyed her time alone. She was traditional and cared that her children experience the same traditions that she grew up with. Jean had a regimented housework schedule and would rarely deviate from it. She sold their family home of 50 plus years in 2015, after she had moved to Minnetonka Shores Assisted Living in Spring Park, MN. She then moved to Haven Homes in Young America in 2016 and then to Wealshire of Medina in September of 2018.

Jean will be greatly missed by her children Boni (Michael) Fadden, Larry (Ling) Rasmussen, Julie (Robert) Rocheleau, Barb Miller, Lisa (William) de laVergne, grandchildren Jeffrey (Anne) Fadden, Sorina (Guido) Koehler, Patrick (Lynette) Fadden, Vincent (Chelsea) Fadden, Matthew (Jennifer) Rasmussen, Michael Rasmussen and fiancé Rebecca, David (Kara) Rasmussen, John (Jennifer) Rocheleau, Lori (Matthew) Kielar, Mitchell Miller, Dillon Bout, Seth Bout, 25 great-grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and devoted friends.

Jean passed away peacefully on November 21, 2019 at the Wealshire of Medina surrounded by her children.

A Funeral Service was held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 26th at Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain, Minnesota. An hour of visitation was prior to the service. Interment to follow at Lewis Cemetery in Maple Plain.

We would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff at Wealshire of Medina for their exceptional care and for all of the love they gave to “Grandma”.
