Jerry Lee Andrews passed away on Dec. 7, 2009 at the Minnesota Veterans Home of early-onset Alzheimer’s. He was born at home on Nov. 16, 1938 in Moonshine Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota. Jerry was the 12th of 12 children born to William and Annie Andrews.
He attended Graceville High School. In 1956 he enlisted in the Air Force where he served stateside as well as Japan, Korea and Okinawa until his honorable discharge in 1960. In 1962, he married Amber Dawn Roben to which two children were born: Kathy Lee Andrews-Parker (J. Paul Parker), Chris Ernest Andrews (Lisa Marie); grandchildren Samantha Parker Lanier and Jacob Parker; Valerie, Jill and David Sheldon; great grandchildren Wyatt and Cody Lease. In addition to his immediate family he is survived by the following brother and sisters Ione and Val Bechthold, Elrine and Al Bennett, Arlo and Phyllis Andrews.
Jerry made his career as a carpenter. Over the years he built two of the Andrew’s homes. He took great pride in raising Hereford and Angus beef cattle and running the family farm with his family.
Jerry was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Elmer and Catherine Andrews, Roy and Delores Andrews, Lyle and Clara Jeanne Andrews, Erma and Phillip Petersdorf, Louise and Ervin Winters, Ruby and Eddie Parkins, Janet and Dick DuBeau, and Ralph and Milly Andrews
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at Light of Christ Lutheran Church, 3976 County Line Road in Delano. Gathering of famiy and friends will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. Gathering will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church on Friday. Rev Lynn Seep will officiate at the services with music provided by Mark Anderson and Peteria Cochran. Private family inurnment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Military honors provided by the Delano American Legion Post #377.
