Jon Howard "Chicken Jon" Hanson

Jon Howard Hanson, a.k.a “Chicken Jon” age 79 of Delano, Minnesota passed away peacefully on November 15, 2021. He was born on June 16, 1942 in Graceville, Minnesota to Howard and Clara (Zeiher) Hanson.

Jon was a 1960 graduate of Graceville High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was Honorably Discharged. He started working for Tom Thumb in the mid 1960’s and excelled at the convenience store business for the next 50 years.

Jon was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew and loved him.
He will be remembered for his love of his family, grandchildren, hunting, vacationing in Mexico, his service to our country, his support of the American Legion, and his long time commitment to the Delano
community. Jon also often returned to Graceville to visit long time friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly P. Hanson: his parents Howard and Clara Hanson; and his nephew Chad Heilman. He is survived by his children: Jean, Mark (Brenda) and Matt (Rhonda); 5 grandchildren who he adored: Tyler, Ben, Nate, Lily, and Nick. Jon is also survived by his 7 brothers and sister: Judy (Jim) Zweifel, Robert (Carol) Hanson, Janet (Duane) Johnston, Steve Hanson, Helen (Dave) Heilman, Chuck (Teri) Hanson and Bill (Lori) Hanson; special friend Jan Styve; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, St. Peter campus in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation took place on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with an 8 p.m. prayer service in St. Martha’s Hall of the St. Peter campus. Visitation continued on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in St. Martha’s Hall prior to the funeral service. Military Honors were provided by the Delano American Legion Post #377.

Jon’s family wants to extend a special “Thank You” to the caregivers at Bridgewater at Hanover and Brighton Hospice. Memorials will be given by the family to the Alzheimer’s Association in Jon’s memory.
