Joyce Painschab (Zumbusch)

Joyce Marie Painschab was born on November 11, 1924 to Joseph and Florence (Hance) Zumbusch in Maple Lake, Minnesota. She was stricken with polio when she was a toddler and wore a brace on her leg from then on. She grew up on a farm near Maple Lake and graduated from Maple Lake High School. She went on to attend the Minnesota School of Business and was employed in Minneapolis until she met Joe Painschab. They were married on August 26, 1947 and moved to Waverly. From this union 6 children were born; 3 boys and 3 girls. Joe and Joyce opened a hardware store and shoe repair shop in Waverly. After they sold the store, Joyce went to work for Astro-Mailers, later named Gage for 17 years. In 2006 she moved into Good Samaritan Home in Howard Lake where she remained until her death on September 26 of this year. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Joe; her parents Joseph and Florence Zumbusch; her brothers Doug Zumbusch and Gordon Zumbusch and her sister Mildred Dalbec. Joyce is survived by her children: Carol (Curt) DesMarais, Bruce Painschab, Nancy (David) Remer, Mike Painschab and special friend Kim Mathews, Debbie (Ron) Evan, and Mark (Sonya) Painschab. She is further survived by her 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister Marcella Borrell; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Visitation took place on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service and continued on Wednesday from 9 to 10:15 at the St. Mary Parish Center in Waverly. Interment was in the church cemetery.
