Lavonne Hayden

Lavonne Hayden age 88 of Watertown, MN passed away 10/16/16. Lavonne was born August 18, 1928 in Montrose, South Dakota to Clara (Ebersviller) and Joseph Flannery. She attended Montrose public schools and teacher’s college in Mitchell, SD. Lavonne taught elementary school in Montrose and country school in DeSmet, SD. While in DeSmet, she met Frank Hayden. Lavonne and Frank were married on September 7, 1950 at Saint Patrick’s Church in Montrose.

After marriage, they made their home in DeSmet where they farmed. Lavonne and Frank moved to Renville, MN residing there for 4 years. They moved to Watertown, MN in 1957. In 1968, Lavonne and Frank purchased the Gambles Hardware Store. Together they operated Gambles and then Hayden Furniture and Appliance. After they sold their store, Lavonne spent several years managing the apartments at Elim Meadows.

Lavonne loved her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for others and always was there with food in times of need or celebration. She volunteered with the church, meals on wheels and at the elementary school. She loved to read, crochet and play cards. She was in several bridge clubs. But her most cherished activity was time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lavonne is survived by her children, James (Beverly Ryther) Hayden, Terrance (Terry) Hayden, Barbara (Mark) Hayden Haugen, Michelle (Jay) Hayden Soderberg, David (Kari) Hayden, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown, Minnesota. Gathering of family and friends took place in the church from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the Mass. Inurnment was in the church cemetery.
