Leonard (Len) Schaust

Leonard Peter Schaust, “Len” age 87 of Delano passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 on the Original Homestead family farm. He was born April 28, 1932 to Anthony and Elizabeth (Pogreba) Schaust in Franklin Township, Minnesota.
Len was a faith filled Christian man who instilled the importance of faith in his family. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, Minnesota. Len was united in marriage to Maxine Veronica Wurm on August 11, 1954 at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake, Minnesota and to this union 6 children were blessed.
Len’s favorite things in life revolved around his family and his farm. He and Maxine cherished their family and loved having them all together on the farm. He possessed true grit and an internal strength that allowed him to face many challenges right up to his final breath. Len had a sharp wit and was known to give the “one liners.” He and Max always had time for a polka or a game of euchre. The grandchildren and great grandchildren were blessings to him and he always gave thanks to the Lord for these and all the many blessings bestowed upon himself and his family.
Len was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Maxine Schaust on September 10, 2019; an infant daughter, twin grandsons Cole and Chase Grams, grandson Payton Schaust; parents, Anthony and Elizabeth Schaust; brothers Anthony Schaust, Joseph Schaust, Loren Schaust and George Schaust; sisters Matilda Florek, Betty Gabrelcik, and Leona Fake, brothers-in-law John Florek, George Fake, Rich Gabrelcik, Glen Litfin and Bob Farniok; sisters-in-law Dorothy Schaust and Joan Schaust.
He is survived by his children: Leonard (Laurie) Schaust Jr., Luann (Dale) Hoese, Gary (Deb) Schaust, Sandy (Rick) Grams, Betty (Charlie) Checkal, David (Shellie) Schaust; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brother Matt Schaust; sisters: Arlene Litfin, Genevieve Farniok; sisters-in-law Deloris Schaust, Estelle Schaust, and Lorraine Schaust.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation took place from 4-8 pm on Monday and 10-11 am Tuesday in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. Rosary Service was at 3:30 pm and a Prayer Service at 7:45 pm on Monday in Martha’s Hall of the St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery in Delano, Minnesota.
