Mary Angela Tabery Smith
July 9, 2025

Mary Angela Tabery Smith, age 54 of Delano, passed away at home surrounded by her family on July 9, 2025. She was born on January 29, 1971, to Philip and Carol (Budig) Tabery in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota.

Mary was raised in Loretto, MN, the fourth of five children. She attended Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School from kindergarten through sixth grade, where her early faith was nurtured. Her childhood was filled with joy, especially on camping trips with her siblings and cousins. Mary took part in dance, gymnastics, and piano lessons and loved spending time at the family cabin, where she learned to water ski and started her love for boating. She went on to attend Delano Public School from seventh through twelfth grade graduating in 1989. Mary was known for her vibrant school spirit—she served on student council, was a cheerleader for basketball and hockey, kept stats for the football team (always proudly on the sidelines), played volleyball and softball, and was crowned Homecoming Queen her senior year.

Mary attended St. Cloud State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing. During her college years, she broadened her horizons by studying abroad in Denmark. Her professional life was primarily spent as a project manager where her ability to organize, lead, and connect with others shined. She turned coworkers into lifelong friends, approaching work not just as a job but as an opportunity to create meaningful relationships.

Mary met Aaron at Carlson Marketing, where their love story began. They were married on June 29, 1996, surrounded by family and friends. Mary and Aaron began their married life in Maple Plain, where they welcomed three beloved daughters—Alexa, Ellie, and Lydia. In 2006, they moved into a newly built home in Delano, raising their girls in a neighborhood filled with cherished friends who became like family. Mary poured her heart into making their house a home—filled with laughter, music, food, warmth, and love. She supported her daughters in all of their sports and activities, cheering them on from the sidelines and encouraging them every step of the way. They took multiple road trips to Naples, Florida, creating cherished memories along the way. Mary provided unwavering love and support to her girls whenever they needed it and served as a living example of the importance of selflessly loving others. She had a gift for hospitality and found joy in entertaining, hosting, and bringing people together. She adored time at the cabin, basking in the sun, cruising the lake, and soaking in every moment of summer. Mary loved to dance, play games, snuggle with her dogs, and simply be with the people she loved most. She never showed up empty-handed—always offering snacks, a listening ear, and her radiant presence. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother, and her unwavering love for her daughters and Aaron was at the core of everything she did. Mary also had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, and her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Philip Tabery.
