Mary I. Hestness (Czanstowski)

Mary Irene Hestness (Czanstowski), age 87 of Minneapolis, passed away on November 11, 2024. She was born on October 29, 1937, to Albert and Gertrude (Twardy) Czanstowski.
Mary grew up on a rural farm about 1 1/2 miles west of Delano, Minnesota. The farm was a very diversified farm that included a sawmill, custom threshing, automotive junkyard, berry farm, as well as ordinary farming activities. She helped her dad with the sawmill as well as other farm work. She attended a one room schoolhouse for part of her education and then graduated in 1955 from the Delano High School in town. After that she moved to Hopkins where she lived with her sister, Lucille, and worked in the office at Minneapolis Moline. During this time, she roller skated and progressed in skating as she took more advanced lessons. She took a trip to Europe in 1959. Her employer, Minneapolis Moline, asked her to be on their parade float for the Hopkins Raspberry Festival.
She met her future husband, Charles, while working at Minneapolis Moline and they were married in 1962 in Hopkins, Minnesota. During the late 1970s through the 1980s for about 15 years she played 2nd base on a women’s softball team. She enjoyed flowers, but she had a particular liking for roses. During the greater part of her life, she had an impressive rose garden. Mary was a CPA and for many years worked with her husband in their tax and accounting firm. She was a member of the Hudson, Essex, and Terraplane automobile club from 1979 until recently. Through the years she held various positions in the club ranging from librarian to secretary to club president.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 AM on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, St. Peter Campus in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation was held prior from 9-11 AM, all at the church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Delano, MN.
