Michael T. Mittelstaedt, “Nice Guy Mike” age 79 of Delano passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 24, 1942, to James and Viva (Lambert) Mittelstaedt in Peoria, Illinois.
Mike was a loving Husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to many. He will be remembered for his quiet manner, giving heart and unwavering love for his family. Mike grew up in Mound, Minnesota and graduated from Mound Westonka High School. Right after high school, he proudly served in the United States Army and worked his way up to sergeant. After serving, he went on to graduate from Dunwoody College of Technology. A strong work ethic and love of carpentry lead him to various construction jobs and earned him the title of superintendent. This career led into various family projects where he was always there for them to “supervise”.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents James and Viva (Lambert) Mittelstaedt Sr, brother Jamie, and in laws Don and Helen Riis. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty; children Mike (Susan), Matt (Becky), Marshall (Stacie); seven grandchildren: Taylor, McKinley, Michael, Braedon, Madison, Morgan, MJ; brothers Steven (Sara) Mittelstaedt, Frank (Sallie) Mittelstaedt; sister-in-law Orlou Mittelstaedt; and wonderful dog Daisy.
Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, July 9th at 11 a.m. at Faith Community Church in Maple Plain, Minnesota. Gathering of family and friends took place in the church for 1 hour prior to the services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Inurnment with military honors was in the Delano Public Cemetery. A reception followed at the Mittelstaedt residence at 6675 County Line Road SE, Delano, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wounded Warriors Project.
