Nita Rose Vandermey age 54 of Hopkins, formerly of Mazeppa passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Belle Fourche, South Dakota on September 23, 1955 to Charles and Mae (Flaigg) Strohschein.

Growing up Nita enjoyed visits to her uncles ranch in Hoover, South Dakota. On October 10, 1980 Nita went on her first date with the man that later became her husband. Joe Vandermey and Nita said their wedding vows on November 9, 1981 in Cody, Wyoming. Promising to stand by each other through good and bad, sickness and health.

Nita was preceded in death by her father Charles. She is survived by her husband Joe Vandermey; children Brandi Vansickel, Lisa Vandermey, Cole Vandermey; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; mother Mae Strohschein; brothers Morgan and Marcia Stroshschein, Dave Stroshschein, Karl Stroshschein; sister Karen Lang; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Nita enjoyed the outdoors; camping, boating, and being with the ones she loved. Her family and friends are thankful for having shared her life. We all love her and she will be dearly missed.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Unity Christ Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota. Gathering of family and friends will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to services. Rev. Pat Williamson will officiate at the services. Inurnment will occur at the Hope Cemetery in Newell, South Dakota.
