Richard "Dick" Henning

Richard “Dick” Henning, age 84 of Watertown, formerly of Maple Plain passed away with family by his side on Monday, June 8, 2020 at his home. He was born to Edwin and Audrey (Thoreson) Henning at Cottage Hospital in Watertown on August 25, 1935. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Dick attended the Delano Public Schools, graduating in 1953. He married Grace Roeser on January 15, 1955 in Chanhassen, MN. He and Grace enjoyed 65 years of marriage living in the house he built on Copeland Road and raising 3 daughters and a son.

Dick was a lifelong member of Lyndale Lutheran Church, serving for many years on the church board and Lewis Cemetery board. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #10 for over 50 years.

Dick was a hard-working man. He could fix anything: cars, tractors, furniture, and shingling his house when he was in his 70’s. He was a talented woodworker; carving fish decoys. In his later years, he took up painting. Dick enjoyed car racing, especially the Indy 500, deer hunting at his farm in Twin Valley and spending time at his cabin on Big Sauk Lake.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Audrey; parents-in-law Leonard and Lorraine Roeser; grandson Scott Henning; brother-in-law Al Klinglehutz; sister-in-law Elaine Roeser. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace; daughters Danice (John) Motzko, Kathy (Thomas) Huffman, Jodi (Justin Anderson) Henning; son Steven (Brandi) Henning; 9 grandchildren Caliste Anthony, Amber (Paul) Hedin, Leah (Kenny) Weyandt, Anisha (Mike) Mueller, Angie Henning, Brett Henning, Andrea Henning, Karisa (Matt) Becker, Quentin (Taylor Connor) Motzko; 13 great grandchildren Hunter, Helle, Crosby, Hadley, Mason, Cooper, Kellan, Eden, Austin, Lily, Timothy, Brooks and Hunter; brother Gerald (Janis) Henning; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Stanley (Minerva) Roeser, Mary Klinglehutz, Ronald Roeser, James (Gloria) Roeser, Gregory (Gayle) Roeser, Roy (Terry) Roeser, Cheryl (Richard) Bakke.

A Private Memorial Service was held on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Lyndale Lutheran Church in Lyndale, MN. Inurnment at a later date will be in the Lewis Cemetery in Maple Plain.
