Ronald Henry Schladweiler

Ronald Henry Schladweiler, 82, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, Minnesota.

 

Ron, also affectionately known as Ronnie, was born in Plum City, WI on March 23, 1941 to Roman Schladweiler and Dorothy (Staehli) Schladweiler. He was baptized at St. John’s Catholic Church, attended St. John’s Catholic school through 8 th grade, and graduated from Plum City High School in 1959.   He attended University of Wisconsin River Falls for a year and served in the National Guard for 6 years.   Ronnie started his career as a route driver for Sunbeam Bread and then was a delivery driver for UPS for over 35 years.

 

He married Joanne Spurrell on January 25, 1964 in Plum City, Wisconsin.   Together they raised two daughters, Rhonda and Melissa in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.   They enjoyed many family trips, especially to Florida and Disney World.  Ron was especially proud of his daughters and spent countless hours watching and photographing their sporting events.

 

Ron had a passion for 1950s and 60s music.  He drove thousands of miles in his van following bands portraying famous singers such as Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, and Richie Valens.   He was a super fan of  the Minnesota band A Hard Day’s Night – attending 106 shows.   He also enjoyed spending time with his family including watching his granddaughters concerts, tennis and dance competitions, and attending MN Lynx games.

 

Ron is survived by his children: Rhonda (Ken) and Melissa; grandchildren: Stephanie, Jennifer and Tyler; brother Calvin (Linda), step-brother Edward, and step-sister Cathy, brothers in-law Jim and Aaron (Sue), and sister in-law Angie (Mike), and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.   He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne, parents Roman and Dorothy, and step- father Edward, and parents in-law, Archie and Mildred. 

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano, Minnesota. A gathering will be held following the service in the fellowship hall.
