Rosemary was born in a farmhouse on March 5, 1929, the first of four siblings born to Agnes and Alex Schumacher. She attended Saints Peter and Paul grade school, grades one through eight. From there she moved on to Mound High School, graduating in 1947. After graduation, Rosemary was employed for a year at General Mills. She met her future husband Roy at a dance in Waverly, Minnesota. Legend has it that she left the dance with Roy instead of her date and the rest is history. They ultimately were married on June 16, 1948, living in an apartment in Loretto. It’s there that a family was started with the first of six siblings arriving in June 1949. To accommodate a growing family, they moved to a tiny house on the home farm where they somehow found room for everyone.
In 1960 they moved the family into Loretto, where they remained until transitioning to Delano in 2015. In 2018 Roy and Rosie celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with many families and friends attending the celebration. Roy passed away in 2018, with Rosie ultimately moving to assisted living facilities in the area.
Rosie was truly engaged in her Catholic faith, serving as president of the Christian Mothers and active involvement in Saints Peter and Paul Church. She was a dedicated mother who managed her family of six while Roy was traveling for work. Disciplining when necessary, praising when warranted, playing catch when an athlete was required,
Rosie was a jack of all trades mother, filling whatever role the situation demanded. She certainly enjoyed the many family gatherings, which often were very raucous, but so much fun. Rosie loved her grandkids and great grandkids. In addition to family affairs, she and Roy attended so many games and sporting events for all of them. In later years she would truly light up when any of them came to visit. Rosie and Roy also traveled to Virginia for visits, First Communion and graduation of their granddaughter. Rosie was a dedicated, lifelong Twins and Vikings fan who didn’t hesitate to share an opinion on their successes and failures over the years.
Loved by her family and friends, Rosie returned that love in abundance over so many years.
