Sandra E. “Sandy” Riordan (Edson) age 80 of Duluth passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Sandy was a Hamlin School of Nursing graduate. She was a longtime RN at St. Luke”s Hospital in Duluth, where she was one of the pioneering care givers in Hospice.

Sandy was a very caring, selfless person with a quiet sense of humor. She always did for others, rather than for herself. She loved spending time with her family, cherished afternoon dinners together, and enjoyed countless hours at the family cabin on the Brule River. She was a dog lover, and over the years her pets were her constant companions.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband James; parents C. L. and Ruth (Williamson) Edson; and brother Harvey Edson. She is survived by her sons Jeff (Holly) Riordan and Mike Riordan; grandchildren Michael (Nicole) Riordan, Michelle (Matt) Lynch, James Riordan, Jenna Riordan, Ken Rish and Corey Rish; 6 great grandchildren, and sister Priscilla (Robert) Knighton.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Vista Room at the Edgewater Hotel (use far east entrance) Duluth, Minnesota. Gathering of family and friends was for 1 hour prior to the services, with light lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, family wishes to donate memorials to Animal Allies. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
