Shirley Hayes

Shirley A. Hayes, age 76 of Delano, passed away June 3, 2016. She was born July 26, 1939 in Watertown, Minnesota to Ambrose and Leona (Dalbec) Yantes.
In high school, Shirley was voted biggest flirt, most athletic and class comedian. She was crowned prom queen along with her boyfriend at the time Kevin Hayes as the king in 1957.
Shirley was a dedicated fundraiser for the relay of life in Delano for over 15 years. She was an avid fisherman with husband Kevin, taking many trips to Lake Winnie and Minnewaska.
Shirley was known as Grandma Chestnut to her grandchildren because of all the chestnuts they collected each fall at Saint Pete’s cemetery. Shirley was very proud of her 37 years of sobriety and so was her family. Her outgoing personality has been passed along to many of her family. At the end of the day, she was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed putting a smile on your face and made many friends along the way throughout her life.
Shirley was preceded in death by loving husband Kevin and mother Leona Yantes. Shirley’s father Ambrose passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016. She is survived by children Jim (Cindy), Jody (Mike) Kramer, Scott (Carrie); grandchildren Kevin, Annie and Joe, Karissa, Katie, Kelsey and Kayla, Alli, Andrew and Nicholas; great grandchildren Avery, Cole, William and Makaela; brothers Ralph (Jeanne) Yantes, Stan (Barb) Yantes and Gary (Sharon) Yantes.
Mass of Christian Burial for both Shirley and Ambrose was held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Delano. Visitation was Thursday 9 to 11 a.m. in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Delano.
