July 10, 2024

Thomas Frederick Wile, best known as “Tom”, age 82 of Minnetonka, former long time resident of Wayzata, passed away on July 10, 2024. He was born on August 24, 1941 to Paul and Jane (Voegele) Wile in Davenport, Iowa.
After a series of moves during his early childhood, Tom’s family settled in Oak Park, Illinois for the majority of his adolescent years. Tom graduated from Oak Park High School near the top of his class and went on to attend the University of Michigan where he received an undergraduate degree in Math and two Master’s degrees in Math and Engineering.

Upon graduation, Tom made a move to Minnesota to begin his career in Finance at General Mills where he had various roles until he landed in the Treasury Department and found his true passion in investment management. Tom left General Mills in the early 1970’s to work for C.H. Brown, an investment firm in St. Louis Park, and went on to open his own successful investment and tax advisory firms, T.F. Wile & Associates and Crosscheck Financial Services, in the 1980’s which he operated in Wayzata for over three decades.

Tom loved puzzles and was a huge fan of basketball, soccer, golf and tennis and enjoyed watching live games and matches on television whenever possible. In his later years, Tom was a resident of New Perspective in Minnetonka where he served as a resident ambassador and was beloved by the entire community. Those who know him best know he loved pina coladas, captain cokes, ginger snaps, hot tamales, peanut brittle and always craved a good burger and frosty malt from Wendy’s. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; mother Jane (Voegele) Wile and father Paul Wile; his sister Nancy (Wile) Wiseman; and his nephew Richard Wiseman.

He is survived by his daughters Julianna (Todd) Goedderz; Katharine (Brent) Zaic, Laurie (Steve) Brown, and Elisa (Andrew) Clark; grandchildren Zachary (Kendall) Zaic, Alexandra (Jake) Goedderz Mielke, Matthew Zaic, Nick Goedderz, Kaitlyn Zaic, Sam Brown, Adam Brown, Ben Goedderz, Will Brown, Elliott Clark, Jeremy Clark and Jason Clark; niece Wendy (Ron) Wiseman Kolodzeij; and the mother of his four daughters, Marilyn Klemt Smith.

The family is planning a private family celebration of life.
