Daniel Knutson
November 9, 2025
Daniel “Dan” Knutson, age 71, of Buffalo, Minnesota, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on November 9, 2025, just one day shy of his 72nd birthday. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing.
Dan was born on November 10, 1953, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Sherney and Alice Knutson. He spent his childhood in New London, Minnesota, and near Fort Mercer, New Jersey, before moving and graduating from Delano High School. In Delano, he met his wife, Kim, and they later moved to Rockford, where they raised their daughter, Kelsey.
Dan spent most of his education and career in the manufacturing field, but his true passion was entrepreneurship. Throughout his life, he devoted significant time and energy to two businesses he created and deeply cared about. Early in his career, he founded a tree-trimming business, and later he poured his heart into Crow River Sports. He loved exploring new ways to design and produce products that supported sports teams throughout the west metro, enjoying both the creativity and the community his work served.
A lifelong Minnesota sports fan, Dan especially loved cheering for the Minnesota Twins. He shared his passion for athletics by coaching wrestling and softball in Rockford, working with many young athletes over the years. In recent years, he discovered the joy of singing karaoke, making many new friends in the Buffalo area.
To those who knew him best, Dan’s genuine smile and quick-witted one-liners were always accompanied by a twinkle in his eye. He was a devoted father, a caring brother, and someone who could always be counted on for encouragement. He will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, warm smile, and dry sense of humor.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Sherney and Alice Knutson, and brothers Ron (Jackie) and Cecil Swenson.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kelsey Knutson; his brother, Lee Knutson; his former wife, Kim Knutson; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
