Elaine Joanne (Fenney), age 75 of Minneapolis, passed away on November 9, 2025. She was born on September 2, 1950 to Angus and Delores (Otto) Fenney in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She loved her family deeply and was always our steadfast leader—truly the take-charge kind of gal. As the firstborn, she naturally took on the role of protector and guide, ensuring we all felt supported and cared for.
Elaine graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in Education, fulfilling her passion for helping others. She dedicated her career to working with children at TCOIC, an alternative school for kids with behavioral issues. Her love for children and her unyielding compassion shone through in everything she did.
In the 1970s, Elaine joined the Women’s Caucus and worked alongside remarkable advocates like Gloria Steinem. She was a fierce advocate for women’s rights, always championing those who needed a voice. This role was just one example of how she constantly looked out for others, working tirelessly to inspire change.
Later, Elaine ventured into Corporate America, traveling across the country to set up Golden Skillet stores. While she enjoyed her job, her heart yearned to be home more. So, she made the decision to become a Taxpayer Advocate for the IRS, where she committed herself to helping others navigate the complexities of taxes with the strong work ethic instilled in her by our parents.
Elaine had a passion for life, especially when it came to travel. One of her favorite adventures was her trip to Norway, where she visited family. This journey ignited a deep appreciation for her heritage, leading her to join the Sons of Norway, where she served as Vice President of the lodge.
Music was another joy in her life, especially the blues and rock & roll. I can still hear her singing along to her favorite songs, laughter filling the air. She had a gentle heart for all creatures, especially cute kittens, and she relished every opportunity to spend time with her family, creating memories filled with joy and love.
As we say goodbye to Elaine, let’s carry forward her spirit of kindness, advocacy, and family love. Though she may no longer be with us physically, her light will forever shine in our hearts, reminding us to cherish each moment together.
Preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents; and brothers-in-law Steven Barrett and Ed Ori. She is survived by her siblings Carol Barrett, Diane Ori, and Jim (Kelly Carson) Fenney; nieces and nephews Amanda (Zach) Stanfield, and Danielle (Conner) McMillan; as well as many beloved cousins and friends.
