Patrick Michael “Pat” McDonald, age 50 of Chicago, formerly of Watertown, MN passed away on July 17, 2015. He was born May 18, 1965 in Watertown, Minnesota to Philip (Flip) and Abigail (Abbie) McDonald.
He graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts and completed his Masters of Fine Arts at Northern Illinois University in painting. He developed an interest in making large scale sculpture. The direction of his work was strongly influenced by family and friends. His most recent work was created with concrete and steel with pieces ranging in weight from 1 ton to 35 tons..
His studio in Oak Park, Illinois was a place of experimentation. His studio in Watertown, Minnesota was the place his large scale work was fabricated. From one or both of these studios he was always working on several new pieces for a number of exhibitions in the Midwest and the East Coast. Above all else, his passion for sculpture was clear as he exclaimed, “If it wasn’t fun, I would not do it!”
Pat was preceded by his father and a brother, Brian. He is survived by his wife Therese (Terri) McKinzie; son Vincent; his mother; siblings William (Lis), Theresa Sullivan (William), Timothy, and Colleen Score (Aaron); and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
