Cecelia Ann Checkal, age 92 of Delano, passed away on March 16, 2016. She was born in Forest City Township, Minnesota on October 30, 1923 to Martin and Mary (Wimmer) Wanderscheid.
Cecelia married Ernest Checkal on June 24, 1947 in Litchfield, Minnesota. She had a deep faith and was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Cecelia volunteered as the playground monitor and became known as “the playground lady” at St. Peter School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She did canning, sewing and was an excellent cook, known for her fried chicken.

Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, son David and son-in-law Dave Williams. She is survived by her children Mary (Roger) Hendricks, Janice Williams, John (Paulette) Checkal, Joe Checkal, Steven (Lori) Checkal, Charlie (Betty) Checkal; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Irene “Cis” Nelson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to Mass in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.
